List Building Tips - Using Ad Swaps To Collect Subscribers For Free

By:  Simon Akers

If you already have an opt in list you can quickly and easily add new subscribers for free by using ad swaps. Its a great example of cross promotion where both parties benefit equally.

It costs you nothing to implement and only a short amount of time to put into action. If you are not using this strategy you are missing out on hundreds of free subscribers.

Before you start you will need to bare in mind that only list owners with a similar number of subscribers to you will be willing to participate in swapping ads. You will also need to target list owners who are in the same niche as you (ad swaps will not work if the target market is totally different).

So you first need to find other ezines and newsletters that are related to yours by searching for relevant keywords in the search engines. You can also visit ezine directories and search the various categories.

Many ezines will not reveal how many subscribers they have so you will need to politely contact the list owners and explain that you want to do an ad swap. You must state how many subscribers you currently have and ask if they would be willing to participate.

If they reply you will then need to craft an email which will be sent to their list. For best results you should be giving away a free report or email course and use a subject line such as "a special free gift for you" to attract the attention of the subscribers.

If the results are not very good it does not necessarily mean that the list was unresponsive but maybe the email that was sent was poorly crafted or the squeeze page was not effective. This is why its so important to spend some time creating a well written email and squeeze page to be used for the ad swap.

If you are providing quality content that offers real value to the reader you will gain more subscribers. Try adding a free bonus product to increase the perceived value of your offer. Don't underestimate the power of ad swaps as they can be very lucrative.
